Leaving NOVA
15.Jul.2008 { Poetic }
Two poems I wrote about my moving from Northern Virginia to seek adventures in Colorado and other parts west. The first was to my boss, the second to Susan, she owns the farm I kept my horse (Miller) at.
OFFICIALLY OFFICIAL
Out of College, an engineer
What with my future ever drawing near
A job I seek to bring me smarts
After the whole college-drinking-being-lazy part
ECS, in NOVA, cool!
If they only knew what they were getting into.
‘Project Manager’ they called me there
to play with dirt and warm a chair.
Two years gone and I’m still here
Time to move on to some other career
What it will be I haven’t a clue
All I know is there’s some adventuring to do.
I ventured to gain some kind of knowledge
Somehow there was room for more since college
You pounded in useful engineer stuff
Then a bit of the fun, meaningless fluff
Now I stand here grateful for it all
Don’t think for a second that I’m going to bawl
I’ll do these last weeks with a smile on my face
Then bid farewell with great memories of this place
LAST RIDE
Turned the corner and then the view
What an awesome place I’ve stumbled onto!
Such luck it was, to find this place
The barn in dreams of equine space.
The fun I’d have, I did little know
But since then have awesome memories to show
Hunting, showing, hacks and rides
Ever progressing with building pride
Susan, thanks! I can’t begin
To share what a great friend you’ve been
A mother too since mine’s so far
Fearless and fun, few riders are on par
Nicole and Bobcat, the pair of you
Have come so far since I was new.
The riding, lessons and story exchanges,
Now only if Bob would get those lead changes!
The goats and dogs, the bunny too
Horses, cats and people say it’s true:
Few places around with this kind of charm
The tranquil and gorgeous Crystal Ridge Farm.
Time to move on and I’m sad to depart
But am grateful for the chance to be part
Of the family, the herd and the friends, I’m sincere
When I say Miller and I have our best memories here.
